Β Let’s be honest, i’m still upset i never got to have that He-Man action figure. Yup i was one of those kids, pretty much an advertisers good fortune and a parents nightmare, pretty much wanted every single action figure that came on during ad breaks whilst watching cartoon segments.
Being a typical 80s kiddo, most of my dream action figures were mostly male oriented and there’s quite a few that you readers might remember or be able to relate to.
- Transformers: I did manage to get a starscream toy at some point, i mustve been about 7, it was ridiculously hard to transform however using my little kid hands and i would constantly struggle to return it back to its original form without the help of an adult. Never knew what became of that fighter jet, but some good memories and imagination came with it thats for sure.
- He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Sigh one of those i badly wanted but never got, especially after countless adverts on television not only showing the action figures but the play set as well including castle grey skull, battle cat and extra characters.
- Thundercats: I did get compensated with Lion O which was one of my favourite toys ever, all these years i finally found a goodle image of what i think the exact toy may have looked like. It had a leverl behind him that you could move with a thumb and he would swivel his arm with sword in hand and his eyes lit up as well.

- Teddy Ruxpin: Highly nostalgic and memorable television show, although that talking version intrigued me a lot back in the day, looking back now that would freak out a lotta millenials i think, us Gen x’ers were a little renegade.
- Micro Machines: This was one of those toys most people had lying around the house, you know what i mean, the random mini car stuck behind the couch for days that you can’t find until the vacumming gets done and then you abandon the current toy you have and start playing with this one.
- Fisher-Price Medical Kit: Not sure if a lot of us asked for these, however; i feel most parents just get it just in case the kid might be inspired to get into the medical field. But yea, it was lying around the house somewhere…we did have a lot of fisher-price toys though i have to say.
- View Master Speak and Spell: The days before iphones and laptops, there wasn’t much choice for electronic gadgets, and it was somewhat inspiring to have something speak back to you in some ways.
- Nintendo/Sega home entertainment systems: Ah let’s face it, the rules were simple, if you parent’s managed to get you one of these without the constant threat motivation of having good grades…your house was where the party was at. Countless hours went into classic retro games at different friends houses back in the day. I never did get one until the SNES, was a little older then but still worth the wait. π
